Disaccharides Definition

These are sugars made by the combination of two other carbohydrate subunits (monomers). There are three most common of them: maltose which is a combination of two glucose molecules, sucrose and lactose.

These sugars are linked by 1-4 glycosidic bonds. So, simply put, disaccharides are combinations of monosaccharides.
